ChowMeister Legal
Terms & Conditions
These terms govern your use of ChowMeister as a customer, including ordering food from independent food businesses through our marketplace.
1. About ChowMeister
ChowMeister is operated by Codeaway Software Ltd, trading as ChowMeister, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 13394229.
Our registered office is 4 Knowle Lane, Cranleigh, England, GU6 8RD.
You can contact us at support@chowmeister.com.
2. Our role
ChowMeister operates an online marketplace that enables customers to discover and order food and related services from independent food businesses.
Unless a listing expressly states otherwise, the food business identified on the listing and order is the independent seller and supplier of the food. ChowMeister provides the marketplace, ordering, payment-facilitation and support platform.
The kitchen is responsible for preparing, packaging and supplying its food and for complying with applicable food-safety, hygiene, allergen, labelling and trading requirements.
ChowMeister remains responsible for the services that ChowMeister itself provides. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
3. Food businesses
ChowMeister may carry out checks before allowing a kitchen to trade on the Platform and may repeat those checks during the relationship.
For UK food businesses this may include matching information supplied by the business against published food-hygiene or local-authority information.
A label such as “Food hygiene record matched” means that information supplied to ChowMeister has been matched with the relevant published record. It does not mean that the Food Standards Agency or any local authority endorses ChowMeister or the kitchen.
ChowMeister may restrict, suspend or remove a kitchen where information becomes inconsistent, unavailable or gives us reasonable cause for concern.
4. Your account
You must provide accurate and current information and keep your account secure.
- Do not impersonate another person or business.
- Do not create accounts or orders for fraudulent purposes.
- Do not attempt unauthorised access to the Platform.
- Do not abuse promotions, credits, refunds or chargeback processes.
- Do not use ChowMeister for unlawful activity.
We may restrict or suspend an account where we reasonably believe there has been fraud, abuse, unlawful activity, a security risk or a serious breach of these Terms.
5. Placing an order
Before submitting an order, you should check the kitchen, items, quantities, allergen information, fulfilment method, address or collection location, selected time or food-drop window and final price.
Submitting an order is an offer to purchase the selected food. The order becomes binding when it is accepted through the Platform.
Availability may change. If an item cannot be supplied, the affected item or order may be cancelled and refunded, or an alternative may be offered for your agreement.
6. Prices and charges
Before you confirm an order, ChowMeister will show the price of the food and applicable mandatory charges available to us, such as delivery or service charges and applicable taxes.
Optional extras will not be added without your selection or agreement.
7. Payment
Payments may be processed through third-party payment providers.
ChowMeister may facilitate collection and settlement of payment in connection with an order even though the kitchen remains the independent seller of the food.
An order may be cancelled where payment cannot be authorised, is reversed or is reasonably suspected to be fraudulent.
8. Allergies and dietary requirements
Kitchens are responsible for providing accurate legally required allergen information for the food they sell.
Always review the allergen information provided before purchasing. Dietary descriptions such as halal, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free or similar statements are supplied by the relevant kitchen and must be accurate.
If you have a serious allergy and the information available is insufficient or unclear, do not place the order until suitable information has been obtained from the food business.
9. Delivery and collection
Available fulfilment methods are shown before checkout.
Preparation, delivery and collection times are estimates unless expressly stated as guaranteed. Factors outside ChowMeister's reasonable control may cause delays.
Customers are responsible for providing an accurate address, delivery instructions and reasonable access.
Collection customers should collect their order within the stated collection period.
10. Cancellation
Food is often made specifically for an order and may deteriorate or expire rapidly. Certain catering arrangements may also relate to a specific date or period.
As a result, the ordinary statutory cooling-off right applicable to some online purchases may not apply to an order.
Our practical cancellation rules are explained in the Cancellation, Refund & Complaints Policy.
Nothing in these Terms affects statutory rights where food is faulty, unsafe, not as described or otherwise does not meet applicable legal requirements.
11. Problems with an order
Please contact ChowMeister promptly if an order is missing, incorrect, materially damaged, not delivered or raises a food-safety or allergen concern.
We may request photographs, packaging, order details or other reasonable information in order to investigate.
Depending on the circumstances, an appropriate remedy may include replacement, a partial refund or a full refund.
12. Reviews
Reviews must reflect a genuine experience.
Fake reviews, concealed incentivised reviews, competitor manipulation and attempts to artificially alter ratings are prohibited.
ChowMeister may investigate, restrict or remove reviews that are fraudulent, misleading, abusive, unlawful or unrelated to a genuine experience. Genuine negative reviews will not be removed merely because they are negative.
13. Platform availability
We aim to keep ChowMeister available but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access.
We may restrict or suspend parts of the Platform for maintenance, security, legal compliance or technical reasons.
14. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
The independent kitchen is responsible for preparing and supplying its food. ChowMeister is responsible for its own marketplace, ordering, payment-facilitation and support services.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms where reasonably necessary because of legal, regulatory, security, product or business changes.
Material changes will be communicated appropriately and will not retrospectively remove rights that already arose under an existing order.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you.
Nothing in these Terms removes a consumer's right to bring proceedings in any court available to them under applicable law.
